I have created a free, “Revenue Per Call” calculator in Microsoft Excel for you. By adding in just 3 figures:

your fixed expense (monthly overhead)

your variable costs per call

your average funeral value

you will clearly see your break-even number of calls per month and how much each call adds to (or lost calls take away from) your bottom line.

Note: This tool is for illustration purposes only and is intended to give you a quick picture of the value of each call. Watch the demonstration video to see how it works.

In the second video installment that I have created for you, I tackle the topic of Value Chain analysis. Value Chain is a business term that is used to identify all of the activities that take to produce a product and get it to market or in our case, from receiving the first call to the final disposition. You can then examine each activity in the process and see how to create more value or at least manage it better to reduce expenses.

In layman’s term: to run a tighter ship and see if there are other opportunities that are related to the services that you are offering and integrate them into your offerings.

In this 8 1/2 minute video, you will see how you can examine your processes and look at areas for vertical or horizontal integration.

Please share your thoughts in the comment field below.

If you liked the discussion with Dr. Kevin Hindle and Nevin Mann, but just don’t know where to start, I have been able to pull in another favor. Join me and Brent Mainprize, Ph.D., as we walk you through step by step how to perform a strategic analysis on your company.

Unfortunately, the training that we funeral directors receive from mortuary school doesn’t teach us to be funeral strategists. I found myself in the same position, but in our market – high cremation, highly competitive market with discounters and memorial societies – I felt that I needed some business strategy education right away. So I went back to university and received my business degree in Entrepreneurial Management. The greatest skill that I learned in the entire program was how to use some Strategic Analysis Tools. Instead of you having to go back to university for an MBA, I want to share with you these tools and how they can be applied to your own funeral operations in your own market.

Dr. Mainprize holds a Doctorate in Entrepreneurship, is an internationally renowned professor who lectures to business owners about the strength of their business model and will share with you what strategies you can use to separate you from your competitors.

During this teleseminar you will learn how to apply these 3 KEY ANALYSIS tools to take you from a high overview look at factors that affect our industry and your market and then laser-focus in on your firm and start to differentiate you from your competition.

We will demonstrate to you how to apply the following business analysis tools to the funeral industry:

PEDST Analysis to look at external factors: Political, Economic, Demographic, Social, and Technological

Five Forces of Competition analyzes: Power of Buyers, Power of Suppliers, Threat of New Entrants, Threat of Substitutes, and Competitive Rivalry (you vs. the funeral home down the street)

SWOT Analysis will look internally at your: Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats.

Then you will have all you need to leap ahead of your competition.

To get the copy to the “Strategic Analysis Guide” simply enter your name and email address and you will instantly access to the guide:

Listen Here:

Enjoy

This session is 86 minutes long so feel free to download it or play it in a pop-up window.

I hope that you found the program valuable and informative. If I could ask you two small favors after listening to the session – please make a comment below (and to say thank you, I will send you my detailed notes for this session) and also if you could please forward this to any friends and colleagues in funeral service that may find this beneficial.

<itunes:summary>If you liked the discussion with Dr. Kevin Hindle and Nevin Mann, but just don't know where to start, I have been able to pull in another favor. Join me and Brent Mainprize, Ph.D., as we walk you through step by step how to perform a strategic analysis on your company.

Unfortunately, the training that we funeral directors receive from mortuary school doesnrsquo;t teach us to be funeral strategists. I found myself in the same position, but in our market - high cremation, highly competitive market with discounters and memorial societies - I felt that I needed some business strategy education right away.
